Sunday 5th July

Call to worship
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods.
His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords:
His love endures forever.
Psalm 136:1-3

I'm gonna jump up and down:

Prayers of praise and thanksgiving
Praise: Father, we praise you that whoever we are
and wherever we go you are there.
We have discovered that there is simply nowhere we can go
where you will not be present.
We cannot hide,
we cannot run,
we cannot even be there before!
You are always ahead of us, preparing the way.
You are there waiting with arms of love and mercy
to hold us and to welcome us;
to heal us and to hold us.
Lord, you are ever near, ever approachable.
In the midst of our anxiety and fear
you are always understanding,
coming into our turmoil,
our doubts,
our weakness and despair,
and you come with peace.
You stand guard over our hearts and minds
so that we dare to speak your name and serve your kingdom.
Great and wonderful God
always loving,
we praise and honour you.
Your majesty is beyond our reach,
your fatherly love, so gentle and accepting, is always near.
We praise you for your love and truth
made known in the word in the word of the prophets,
in your Word made flesh in Jesus;
in his dying  and his rising.
We praise you here and will praise you everywhere.
We praise you now and will praise you for ever. Amen.

The Lord's my shepherd:
By faith we see the hand of God:

Have a read through the poem Footprints.

One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.

After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.

This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You'd walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me."

He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you."

Think about your journey with God. Think about the high moments and the low moments in your life. On a blank graph, mark the key moments in your life, and whether they were high or low moments. As you reflect upon this, draw a line as you think about how close you have felt to God in these moments.

Lord, we commit ourselves to seek you wherever we are on the journey
and to be open to your life-transforming power every step of the way.
