Sunday 9th August

Lord as we come to worship you, so our hearts turn to praise as we consider the sheer size and endless variety of your creation. The more we discover, the more we realise how little we do know. We scale mountains and plumb the depths of oceans; we reach the outer limits of space and we look back into history; we understand so much about our own world, our own bodies, our own minds. Yet, Lord, again and again we are confronted with the reality of how little is the sum of our knowledge.
All-knowing, all seeing God, we praise you because there is nothing you do not know, nothing you do not fully understand, nothing that is beyond your comprehension. Mighty, holy, wonderful God, we praise and worship you, Lord of all.
But Lord, we praise you more that because of the life, death and resurrection of your Son, Jesus Christ, we can know him as Saviour and through the Holy Spirit we can serve him as Lord. Lord, accept our praises, poor as they are, and keep our hearts and minds and lives focused on Christ, the source and reason and the power for our praises. Amen.
And as we consider the greatness of God, so we continue our worship as we share in the prayer which Jesus taught:
Lords’ prayers
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name,
your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.

Hear I am to worship:

Acts 5 v 1 - 11 Good News Translation (GNT)
Ananias and Sapphira
Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property.  With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet.
Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”
When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened. Then some young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him.
About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. Peter asked her, “Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?”
“Yes,” she said, “that is the price.”
Peter said to her, “How could you conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.”
At that moment she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband. Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events.

When we walk in the light of Christ, we have fellowship with one another.
Help us Lord to always walk in your light so that we may be pure in our thoughts and deeds. When we have done wrong help us to be honest and confess our sins, for we know if we are truly sorry and honest with you in our hearts you will forgive us.
For we are assured in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God has showered and will continue to shower his love and mercy upon all his people. Amen.
Give to me Lord a Thankful heart:

Jesus shall take the highest honour:
Wherever you are and whatever you do over the coming week may God’s presence be with you guide and keep you safe.

Play a game
If you have a copy, why not play a game of Monopoly (or another similar game). Think about what it would be like if everyone cheated? What would happen if one of the players kept stealing money from the bank? Would it be fun?
Question to think about: Why is it better to be honest than to lie to others?

Saying sorry
Have a think of time when you may have told a lie. Perhaps like saying you have have brushed your teeth when you haven’t. Write or draw a picture of the lie you’ve told.
When we say sorry to God, he always forgives us and makes it right between us. If you want to say sorry to God for lying, you can either shred or cut up their paper into lots of tiny pieces.
Memory verse
The Bible talks about us having a new life as a child of God and giving up our old habits. It’s a bit like a snake shedding its skin. Have a read through the memory verse below and then perhaps have some fun wriggling around in the sleeping bags and wriggling out of them like a snake shedding its skin.
“Stop lying to each other. You have given up your old way of life with its habits. Each of you is a new person.” Colossians 3:9-10a
